However, it is impossible not to do the activities or chores that you do everyday using water, and it is more impossible to stop natural elements like rain or snow. What you can do, then, is to have some kind of protection for your house. And one very great way to protect it from fast detriment is by applying waterproof paint. But before you get too excited, you have to know some tips for applying waterproof paint. Read the next few paragraphs.
Do not jump right ahead to paint your house. You have to identify first if there are some water problems such as leaks because of gaps, cracks, or holes in different parts of your house. This way, your effort and your money will not go to waste by painting the house and again and again because of the damage caused by the unresolved problem. Check the roof, ceiling, basement, water pipes, window sills, and other areas which you think might have water problems.
Before applying waterproof paint, make sure that there is good ventilation. These days, most houses are saving energy because of energy problems worldwide. They try not to let heat escape from the house especially in cold weather. This is a great step. However, one disadvantage is that this poor ventilation is not a good condition for painting the house with waterproof paint. What you can do is to let the moist go out of the house by opening windows or curtains and doors.
If you will repaint the room using paint that resists water, make sure that you have sanded off the old paint entirely. Not removing the old paint completely will still cause damage even after repainting it.
After cleaning the surface that you want to repaint or paint, you can now paint it with the water repellent paint. Make sure that you coat the entire surface completely. Then, apply a primer which is oil-based. Let it dry for a few minutes. Once the paint and the primer have dried out, you should apply one or two more coatings of the water resistant paint. This way, the coat will be thick and the water will not be able to cause damage to your house.
Water damages are very difficult house problems that may cost you a lot of money. So the best thing to do is to prevent water problems. Waterproofing your house is just one way to solve house problems caused by dampness. You can try other methods but make sure that they will be as effective as painting your house using waterproof paint.
