Metal Tin Roofing
Metal tin roofing has always been a favored choice among many homeowners. For one reason or the other though, when new homes were being designed or old homes renovated, metal roofing took a back seat to asphalt singles, cedar shakes, ceramic tiles, clay shingles, slate roofing, and wood shingles. Most people associate this change to the rising costs of metal sheets, which in part may be true. Used extensively before, thin aluminum sheets are no longer a viable source since these easily give way to corrosion and rust. Buying the said sheets for roofing material was expensive enough already but replacing them several times a year took too much effort as well – often with the same end results each and every time.
These days though, treated tin metal is used more in home construction because these tend to remain corrosive and rust free for longer periods of time. And surprisingly enough this kind of roofing material is becoming less expensive as time goes by – at least, when compared to some of the other roofing materials out there. Here is a list of the other benefits of using metal tin roofing.
1. Tin is the most lightweight of all roofing options. As compared to the rest of the materials used for shakes and shingles, metal (steel alloy or aluminum) can be installed on almost all architectural structure, no matter how flimsy the underlying construction materials seem to be. In other words, there is no need to reinforce walls or the home’s foundation if you use metal tin for roofing.
2. This kind of roofing option is also one of the easiest to install. Most roofing projects of this kind can be done in a matter of days (or hours) – that is, as long as the underlying construction materials are already in place. On the other hand, the installation of shingles and shakes would take much longer since each and every material should be fastened meticulously. At the same time, metal tin as a roofing material that can also be installed on top of older roofing materials, which makes home renovation easier to do. You certainly cannot do that with the “heavier” roofing options such as asphalt singles, ceramic tiles, clay shingles, and slate roofing.
3. Metal roofing is likewise very low maintenance. Once you have properly installed an entire layer, you do not need to do any kind of yearly maintenance at all. At most, you can have 10 to 20 years of stress free roofing. However, it is important to choose sheets with several rust resistant coating. And if possible, check for product guarantees as well.
4. You can choose painted metal tin roofing. These days, painted metal tin roofing are readily available that can suit any house color possible. You can have your choice of roofing materials that can either match or contrast with the rest of your home’s structure.
5. Steel alloys and aluminum are fire-resistant materials which is also great in helping secure your home from possible fire hazards. Also, since the sheets are laid out in overlaying patterns, metal tin roofing is more wind resistant than other roofing options.
